How to Install (Re) Windows 10 Complete with Flashdsik

 

How to install Windows 10 can be through two ways. Among others, using software files in the form of VCDs and using software files stored on a flash drive. For this tutorial I will focus on the second method, which is how to install Windows 10 with a flash. Because in my opinion this is the easiest and most applicable way for laptop devices that do not have a DVD drive though.

We know that today many laptop devices do not have DVD drive hardware. While all laptops and PCs certainly have a USB port that we can use to connect to a flash. Well, how do I install Windows 10 with a flash?

1.    Make a Bootable Windows 10 on a Flashdisk

What must be done first is to make a bootable Windows 10 on a flash. Besides flash, you can also use microSD with a card reader. We only need a computer device such as a laptop or PC, flash, and Windows 10 files to make it. With a note of the capacity of the flash or microSD that we use is a minimum size of 8 GB. Because the size of Windows 10 files around 4 GB more.
For software files that need to be prepared, among others: Rufus portable version and Windows 10 in ISO file format. If you don't have a Windows 10 file, please download using Windows ISO Downloader. Likewise with Rufus, if you don't have it, you can download it on the official website rufus.akeo.ie.
Until this stage I assume my friends already have a Rufus file and Windows 10. So I will continue to the next step, which is to make a bootable Windows 10 on a flash.

1.     Turn on your laptop or PC.
2.     Make sure the Rufus and Windows 10 files are stored on a laptop or PC.
3.     Connect the flash or microSD to the laptop.
4.     Double click on the rufus.exe file. Run the application. In the 'Create a Bootable   Disk Using' option, click on the CD image, then a new window will open. Select the Windows 10 file with ISO format that has been saved on the previous laptop drive. Then click 'Open' to continue.
5.    In the 'Device' column select the flashdisk that we connected to the laptop earlier. Then in the column "Partition scheme and target system type" select "GPT partition scheme for UEFI" with a note, this bootable will later be run on a new computer or Windows that has not been installed at all. If later we will install Windows 10 on an old computer or reinstall, then we change the partition scheme choice to the 'MBR partition scheme.'

Then the column 'File system' fill with the choice 'FAT32', while the column 'Cluster size' fill with the default selection only. For the 'new value label' column, we can write "Windows 10" as the name of the file that will be stored on the flashdisk.
Sixth, click 'Start' and after it's finished, your flashdisk is ready to be used to install Windows 10 on a laptop or PC. Then click 'Close' to close the Rufus application.

2.    Change the Boot Priority in the BIOS

To be able to continue the process Install Windows 10 with a flash. We must first change the boot priority in the BIOS on the laptop or PC that we will install. Follow the steps below:
1.    Connect the flashdisk that we filled with Windows 10 bootable to the USB port of the laptop or PC that we are going to install.
2.    Turn on the laptop or PC by pressing the power button.
3.    Enter the BIOS by pressing the ESC key on the keyboard or the F2, F4, F8, F9, or F12 keys, depending on each laptop. Usually every laptop or PC has a different way to get into the BIOS. Before doing so, make sure you have read the instructions.
4.    Change the boot priority setting to the flashdisk. In the first choice, please change to the 'USB' option while the other settings leave the default. When finished, please save and exit. Then the laptop or PC will restart.

 

3.    The Windows Installation Process

After restarting, the laptop or PC will begin the Windows 10 install process. Allow loading until a window appears from Windows asking to setup the language and time for the computer that you are installing. Just leave it like that, then click 'next'.

1.    Click 'Install Now' to begin the next process.
2.    In the Activate Windows window, just select 'I don't have an active key'
3.    Select the Windows system to be installed. Just select ‘Windows 10 pro’ then click ‘Next’
4.    Check 'I accept the license term' then click 'Next'
5.    In the new window two options will appear, ‘Upgrade’ and ‘Custom’, select ‘Custom’. The purpose of the 'Upgrade' here is if we want to update the old system with a new one without removing the application and without changing the files on the laptop or PC. While the 'Custom' option is chosen when we want to install a new Windows on a laptop or PC.
6.    Then you must create a file storage partition for your laptop or PC. How: click 'Drive 0' then click 'New' then you make drive C. Fill in the size column in accordance with the desired drive size. Try to drive C at least 40,000MB. After that click 'Apply' click 'Ok'.
7.    After the Drive C partition is complete, click 'Drive 0 unallocated space' then click 'New' then click 'Apply.' This drive will later become Drive D on the laptop or PC. If you want to divide again into two partitions, please make it the same way as above. So that later on your laptop or PC there will be C, D, E Drive and so on according to the number of partitions you created.
8.    Select the Drive C partition that you created earlier, then click 'Next' then the Windows 10 install process will start running. This process will usually take several minutes. You just wait. If the process is complete, the laptop or PC will restart itself.

4.    Windows 10 Basic Settings

The next step in the install process of Windows 10 is the basic settings of Windows on a laptop or PC. Here there are two choices offered by Windows. There are ‘Use Express Settings’ and ‘Customize’ options that appear in the window. This ‘Use Express Settings’ option if you want to use automatic settings from Windows.

Usually the settings will be made default. If you want to adjust the basic settings yourself, please select ‘Customize’ to adjust as desired.

However, there is also a Windows window that directly presents basic settings options. Usually the "region" option will appear for the initial settings. Please select the country where you live today. Then click 'Yes' to continue. Then click 'US' for keyboard layout options, then click 'Yes' to continue. Then click 'Skip' for the second layout option, the internet connection option.
Next is the PC owner's identity setting. Type in your name or the owner of the PC, click 'Next'. Type the password you want, or leave it blank if you don't want to protect your PC with a password, then click 'Next.'

In the Privacy Settings settings you can still use the default, then click 'Accept.' Wait a few minutes, then Windows 10 has finished installing on your laptop or PC. Next, just install the supporting drivers needed. Such as wifi, VGA drivers, and so on.
In this tutorial we will not review how to install supporting drivers, maybe on other occasions we will review in a separate discussion. Or if you want to know, you can just search on Google. There is a lot of information regarding the technical installation of computer programs.

How to Reinstall Windows 10

Then what about the laptop or PC that has previously been installed Windows 10 and want to reinstall? Is the method the same as the steps for installing Windows on a new laptop or PC?
It's not complete if we only review how to install Windows 10 without reviewing also how to reinstall it. Because not all laptops or PCs that have Windows 10 installed have never been installed before by Windows.

There are times when a laptop or PC that has Windows 10 installed has crashed or feels its performance is less OK. Well, in this case sometimes the solution to reinstall Windows is the best way.

With the Refresh and Reset feature in Windows 10 allows us to reinstall without the need for installation files again. No need a CD, VCD, or flashdisk that contains a Windows 10 installer. We just need to use the Refresh and Reset features provided by Windows 10.

In general, the Refresh and Reset features are almost the same, but it needs to be observed before using it. Both are equally functioning to restore the Windows system on our laptop to its original state when it was first installed. However, actually the two are different. What are the differences?

If we use the Refresh feature, then personal files and modern programs will not be lost because they are deleted. It's different if we use the Reset feature. Personal files and modern programs will be deleted when we choose to use the Reset feature. Because this Reset feature will do the reinstall process which then reformats the laptop or PC hard disk.

What is meant by modern programs here are programs that are available at the Windows Store. If I'm not mistaken, these modern programs have been introduced since the birth of Windows 8.

For consideration of using Refresh or Reset, of course it requires careful assessing the problems that exist on the laptop. Indeed the recommendation is to try the Refresh feature to resolve the problem. If indeed after Refresh has not resolved the problem, then please use the Reset feature.
